Park Hill Garden Walk 2011

Park Hill has a lot of wonderful features and activities that make this neighborhood great. But what shows off the heart and essence of Park Hill is the Park Hill Garden Walk. Scheduled June 25^th from 10-4, this year’s Garden Walk will once again bring out our best as a neighborhood. It’s not only the opportunity to peek behind those fences but get out the bike, mingle with the neighbors or just stop and smell the roses for a day. Whether you are a Master Gardener, a dabbler in vegetables or just want to dust off your green thumb muse, there is a garden for everyone this year.

While Mother Nature created the canvas, it is our gardeners who have created the flora artwork. This year, the Park Hill Garden Walk features 14 fabulous gardens. Your brochure-ticket is your key to creatively constructed hardscape, water ponds, a plethora of annuals and perennials, professionally landscaped gardens, and knowledgeable homeowners ready to open their gates and share their palettes. And speaking of palettes! We have some talented artisans featured in each garden too. For the other spelling of ‘palate’, sample some wine at one garden on the tour!

Purchase tickets at Park Hill Library, Moss Pink at 4615 E. 23^rd, or online at gphc.org and start the tour at 1980 Dahlia St., which is Montview Presbyterian Church. See how they’ve created a lovely area for fellowship. You will also find your Park Hill Garden Walk 2011 collectible pin at this location along with information booths, Garden Walk posters for sale, and refreshments. For those who want to procrastinate on ticket purchases, we’ve got you covered; tickets also available the day of at 1980 Dahlia. Please help the Park Hill Food Bank by bringing non-perishable food items to this first garden and be able to enter the drawing for fabulous gift certificates and donations from our in-kind sponsors.

2011 Garden Walk Announced!

All of you gardeners out there waiting to participate in this year's Park Hill Garden Walk can finally set their calendars for the date. June 25th, 10-4 is this year's date! So far we have gathered interested gardeners with their gardens and are planning another spectacular walk. Want to join the committee? Show your garden? Respond to the post here!

Garden Walk update! Tickets for this event can be purchased at any garden starting at 10 am. 2963 Ash or 2245 Leyden will get you a ticket and map to get started. Park Hill Garden Walk Getting Closer!

Periscope; check, ladder; check, binoculars; check, notebook; check…Hey! Wait a minute. What about just attending the 2010 Park Hill Garden Walk and leaving the spy gear at home? No need to peek over fences or skulk the alleys to see your neighbors’ gardens.

This year’s Garden Walk takes place June 19th from 10 am-4 pm rain or shine and proves to be a plethora of garden styles with a buffet of gardeners ranging from those that have created family friendly oasis’s to tropical warmth in a conservatory/sunroom.

Claude Monet lives in Park Hill! You will be delighted to walk through this garden featuring a gravel path that leads you along plants with textures and colors, and a feel of Giverney, France. Outdoor dining among lights and a water feature finish this lovely garden paradise.

Community gardening is a wonderful way to gather people with a common interest. We have our own community gardens at Park Hill Elementary School on the Walk. In addition to the neighborhood gardening spirit there will also be the Denver Bee Club, Fitzcoops on raising chickens and other homesteading interests located at these gardens.

Stop by another Garden Walk garden and visit with the owner on his experience raising bees and growing an abundance of plants on his postage stamp lot. See how many of the Walk gardeners use raised beds and incorporate edibles with ornamentals. Compost need not be fussy. Talk with a gardener and her method of compost madness. Visit gardens that make wise use of space to get the most of our urban landscapes. Make sure you have your paper and pen handy to write down the varieties of plants featured on the Garden Walk.

Our variety of architecture becomes picturesque with unique gardening styles that incorporate the timeless homes with unique hardscape, meandering paths and outdoors living rooms. The bucolic sound of water is featured in a few of the Walk gardens. A Koi pond is featured in one lovely garden surrounded with dozens of trees labeled for visitors. Another garden has a water feature that frames a whimsical courtyard and is decorated with artwork.

There is something for every a gardener with or without a green thumb: Professionally designed gardens or gardens that evolved from the heart. Pick up information sheets on your gardening interests, visit the lemonade stand, stop by for some ice cream or pet a chicken. Local artists will be showing their work and some painting plein air in a number of the gardens. There is no better way to spend a summer Saturday in our unique and special neighborhood.

Help support the GPHC food pantry and bring non-perishable food to a collection box located at any one of the Garden Tour gardens and be eligible for prize drawings generously donated by our local merchants. Proceeds from this event benefit the Greater Park Hill Community, Inc.

Tickets are $15.00 (adults) $10.00 (children 15 and under), $10.00 seniors (+65) and are on sale now at King Soopers, Moss Pink, Park Hill library or through the GPHC office. Eleven Wonderful Gardens on Tour June 19, 2010

What better way to spend a beautiful summer day then strolling through delightful gardens on the 10th annual Park Hill Garden Tour? This year’s rain or shine event scheduled from 10 am to 4 pm has a collection of gardens with a variety of features you don’t want to miss. And now you won’t have to peak over fences and wonder what goes on in the neighbors’ yards!

Gardens with flowers, vegetables and trees of course but come see how homeowners create secret oasis’s in which to entertain, find a moment of peace or continue the growing season all twelve months. Water features, hardscape, urban farming and community gardening, composting and bees all are elements of the variety Park Hill Garden Walk offer you this year.

Gardeners will be on hand to share their passion for gardening so bring your notebooks and fill it with great ideas. The Park Hill Garden Walk gardens will also be host to 8 local artists sharing their work.
